And it's beautiful! Like I've been there before. ;)

But I notice a bit of slideshow effect in the woods, so: time to dig the hardware swamp once again as my 2012 rig finally shows signs of age.
I would like to be brought up to speed on what you are putting in your boxes these days.

I have a few old standpoints/misconceptions:
Nvidia > ATI
SSD which brand?
Corsair PSU
Corsair RAM
Intel > AMD
ASUS MB

Suggestions/corrections? I'm all ears! :)

Intel or AMD nowadays with new AMD Ryzen is a closer fight than in decades! I don't know how new IL2 is with multicores, but you get more cores for the price with AMD, but per core performance is still better with Intel.
I think you should look at the total cost for CPU and motherboard and go with what gives you most bang for the bucks.
My bet would be AMD Ryzen/AM4 socket motherboard.
Example a Ryzen 5 1600(x) and a decent AM4 MB will go for around 3200 SEK. Same kindof system from Intel, i5 8600K and socket 1151 MB will go for around 3800 SEK. And then with the Intel you can't run 12 threads since you need to step up to i7 for HyperThreading.

When it comes to grafix card you have to ask yourself if you want something for VR or only to drive a normal screen(s)? For VR you need to step up and get pretty expensive stuff, at least GTX 1070 or Vega 56 starting at 4500 SEK.. but preferably GTX 1080 Ti for 7500 SEK!
But if your looking for a card to drive one screen in HD resolution, then a GTX 1060 or RX580 are more than good enough and go for around 2000 SEK.

For SSD, get at least 256GB for the lowest cost on SATA6 interface.. this is more than good enough. Cruicial MX300 275GB or 525GB are good choices.

So whats your budget?

But mum.. Please!

My limited (and, admittedly, archaic) experience with AMD is much heat and instability for some FPS. Times should have changed though. :)
On the graphics side, my worry with VR is that I'd wreck what order I have on the desk while reaching for different control units while not seeing them. So for the moment, at least, that seems not so important. Some GTX solution seems the one to go for.
So: Thanks a lot for the input, I will look more into the options I otherwise might had rejected.

Oh, I lowered some graphic function one step, and now it's smooth again. And I can't see much quality loss if any.
Might postpone this a bit. Or not. :) The fresh out-of-the-box electronics smell!

THX!

Edit: Oh budget... Will 10-13K for a box cut it?
